The great thing about Trento is that its relatively small size makes it very manageable on foot. If you're headed to centro storico, about five minutes from the train station, you'll want to walk anyway to soak up the atmosphere and take in the historic surroundings. These old city centers were built before cars were invented, so they seem to be designed for walking. Stroll with a gelato through vicoli, gallerie, strade that lead to all kinds of interesting places - cafès opposite painted buildings on cobblestone streets, piazze with fountains and unique shops, churches and hidden gardens. Outdoor markets, street musicians (and professional beggars, too) add to the charm of this enjoyable italian custom - la passeggiata.
Tip: Stop by the tourist office on via Manci near the corner at via Belenzani, pick up a map, some brochures, and you're on your way!
