As the train departs Verona and heads north alongside the Adige river, the mountains spring up almost immediately. Upon exiting a short tunnel, the atmosphere of the ride changes dramatically. Climbing ever so slightly upward through the Adige valley towards the Alps, the scenery has also changed - the view is now dominated by steep cliffs and mountainsides dotted with vineyards, villas and castles. Consulting a map, you can see that you've just entered the northern Italian region of Trentino-Alto Adige. After about an hour and a couple of short stops, the train arrives in Trento.
